MEET THE CAST AND DIRECTOR OF "A SONG FOR CORETTA".NEDA SPEARS* (MONA LISA MARTIN)Neda Spears is ecstatic to be back at Ensemble
Theater, where she performed in HUCK AND HOLDEN. She was seen in
Cleveland in productions in the early 90's at Berea Summer Theater (DROOD),
Cain Park (ONCE ON THIS ISLAND), Chagrin Valley Little Theater (NUNSENSE),
Mayfield JCC (WORLD GOES 'ROUND), and Beck Center (BIG RIVER). For the past 20
years, she lived in Chicago and performed at the Marriott Theatre ( HONK!),
Court Theater (RAISIN), Drury Lane Oakbrook (BUDDY), Chicago Shakespeare
Theater (A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM), Northlight Theatre (SIDE SHOW), Oak Park
Village Players (THE WHO'S TOMMY), American Theatre Company (TINTYPES) and with
Roadworks Theatre (THE AMERICAN PLAN).
Most recently, she was part of the world premiere of Pearl Cleage's new
play THE NACIREMA SOCIETY... that debuted at Alabama Shakespeare Theatre and
the Alliance Theatre. She was also the originator of the role of
"Momma" in THE AMERICAN GIRLS' REVUE, based on the popular children's
books, that performed at Chicago's American Girl Place and also worked with
Barry Manilow in his original show COULD IT BE MAGIC? She would like to thank
Celeste and Ensemble for letting her play again in her hometown.
ANGELA GILLESPIE WINBORN* (HELEN EDWARDS)
 Angela
Gillespie-Winborn is a Cleveland native who has performed through out the
Northeast Ohio area. She was last
seem at the Beck Center playing the role of Ma Raniey in Ma Raniey Black Bottom. Theatres include The Cleveland
Playhouse, (Velma) Crowns, Porthouse Theatre (Mama Eurie) Once On This Island, Cain
Park, Carousel Theater, Cleveland
Opera and Cleveland Opera on tour.
She performed in over twenty productions at the Karamu Theater in the
late eighties and nineties. Angela
also performed in the production Double Nickel Blues under the
director Margret Ford-Taylor. This
is not the first time Angela has performed with Ensemble Theatre. Angela was seen in Tickless Time many years
ago under the direction of Ensemble founder Lucia Colombi. Her film credit include Antwone
Fisher (The woman In White)
directed by Academy Award-Winning actor Denzell Washington. Angela was also an extra in Spiderman III. She has done several local
commericials in Cleveland and Pittsburg and is currently a Substitute Teacher
for the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. Angela also is the
manager for the City of Cleveland Summer Arts Program, The Showagon.
Angela would like to thank Celeste and Margret Ford-Taylor for the
opportunity to perform for Ensemble Theatre once again.
ALECIA HENDERSON (ZORA EVANS)
Alecia Henderson is a native of Cleveland, OH. She is a graduate of Warrensville
Heights High School, Eastern Michigan University (B.S.), and Cleveland State
University (M.Ed, Ed.S). She has
danced with Eclipse Dance Company from 1994-1995, ADM Dance Company from 2001-2008, Mt. Zion Fellowship Praise Dance Team from 1995-2008 and
Pneuma Dance Company from 2009-present.
She has also been a dancer in Foluke Cultural Arts Center’s Production
of Coming Of The King in 2004, 2005,
and 2006. Currently, she is the
advisor and choreographer of the Columbus Intermediate School Highsteppers and
Bedford High School Danceline. A Song For Coretta is her acting debut.
CAMILLE TRAMMELL (KEISHA CAMERON)
Camille is a Junior at Kent State University where she is majoring in Broadcast Journalism. She makes her Ensemble Theatre debut in the role of "Lil Bit" after enjoying acting in productions such productions as "And The Children Spoke" and "A Christmas Gift" and performing as a dancer in "The Michael Jackson Special".
SONIA BISHOP (GWENDOLYN JOHNSON)
Sonia Bishop is very excited to grace the Ensemble Theatre
stage once again. Sonia is a native of Cleveland who has had the passion for
acting in her since a very young age. Sonia has been seen in several
productions at Karamu, at Ensemble in Sorrows
and Rejoicings, The Dobama, and the Beck Center in A Raisin in the Sun as Ruth. As always Sonia thanks her biggest
fans her husband Derek, and sons DJ, Dylan, and her newest fan baby Destin.
Sonia lives her passion by remembering “Jesus said to him, If you can believe, all things are possible
to him that believes.” Mark 9:23
MARGARET FORD-TAYLOR, DIRECTOR Margaret Ford-Taylor is a nationally acclaimed writer, director, actress and arts administrator. Among Many critically recognized acting awards and commendations, she received her first Emmy nomination for her performance in the public television production of "American Women: Echoes and Dreams". Her last film appearance was as Aunt Eda in Denzel Washington's "Antwone Fisher". Author of more than 40 critically acknowledged and nationally produced stage works, Miss Ford-Taylor's second Emmy nomination was as a writer of the ABC television documentary, "The Second Reconstruction." After having served as it's Artistic Director for a number of years, she maintains her affiliation over 40 years with the Paul Robeson Theatre of The African American Cultural Center in Buffalo, New York. She was also affiliated with the world renowned Karamu Performing Arts Center of Cleveland for more than 30 years, serving as it's Executive Director for 10. She has served on the faculties of Kent State University, and Akron University, retiring from the the Dramatic Arts Faculty of Cleveland State University in 2008. She returned to Cleveland State as a guest performer in the role of "God" for the departments final Factory Theatre Production of "Everyman". As a teacher and mentor, many of her students are recognized among the list of note professionals in the performing arts field and other industries. *(Member of Actors' Equity Association)
